Royal Bahamas Defence Force officer completes U.S. Coast Guard training with top honors

BAHAMAS – Royal Bahamas Defence Force officer Lt. Michael Hanna is back home after completing an extensive training at the United States Coast Guard Training Center in Yorktown, Virginia from January 9-April 6, 2007.

The training was divided into three areas: The first, International Crisis Command and Control. Important aspects of this training included incident response planning and facilitating the media in a professional and timely manner following a major crisis.

The second phase was the International Leadership and Management Seminar that focused on training middle managers.

The final phase comprised the most extensive training, the International Maritime Officer Training Course which included Search and Rescue, Risk Assessment, Oil Pollution Spill Response and Port Security.

Seventeen participants from fourteen countries attended the three-month training. Lt. Hanna represented The Bahamas exceptionally well, being selected as the best course candidate, better known as the Honor Graduate. During the training, he was also featured in the Virginia based magazine, Military.Com.

RBDF Lt. Commander Michael Hanna demonstrated strong leadership skills, professionalism, integrity and diplomacy during the extensive training in Virginia. His training was sponsored by the U.S. Embassy. The Embassy takes this time to congratulate RBDF Lt. Michael Hanna on his outstanding performance and being the recipient of the prestigious Honor Graduate award.
