Register your child for IMACS Hi-Tech Summer Camp Programs

PLANTATION – Registration for the Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science’s popular summer camp program is well underway, but it’s not too late to register for the final three one-week sessions.

A “hi-tech” camp for children of varying age groups, the program is geared towards children who love to learn.

“We’re not your everyday outdoor camp,” said Terry Kaufman, President of the IMACS. “This is a real academic program that provides a high quality learning experience for children – and it’s right here in Plantation.”

The one-week summer camp sessions will continue for the remainder of the summer and will feature three components for children entering third through tenth grade.

A Virtual Robotics & Computer Programming class is available for students entering third grade and above and will teach computer programming and other computer enrichment activities. Students do not just merely use the computer in this course, Kaufman said. They write computer programs to control robots that operate in a virtual world that mirrors the physical world, complete with friction and laws governing conservation of momentum and energy.

An electronics lab teaches children about electrical components such as resistors, diodes, LEDs, capacitors, transistors and integrated circuits. The students use them to design and construct fun projects that are suited for their abilities.

“One of the most popular programs we offer is our Logic Puzzles class for children of different age groups from first grade up to eighth grade. It’s a fun and challenging course developed to strengthen their reasoning abilities,” says Kaufman.

This class, and others structured as team-oriented strategic thinking activities, develops the kind of thinking that is important for their entire education – not just math and science.
The summer program is offered as a full day or half-day program, or parents can choose to sign their children up for just one class at a time.

The classes are small, allowing the highly qualified instructors to spend the maximum time with children, encouraging them to expand their imaginations and abilities.
