Regina Belle onboard for the Port Royal Music Festival

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Port Royal Music festival has already been established as Kingston’s premier music festival with its outstanding debut last year.

Finally Kingston can flaunt a major event which offers the perfect combination: breath taking ambiance, and top rate musical selections including John Holt, Boyz II Men, Atlantic Star and Tessanne Chin just to name a few.

This year’s main event, scheduled for August 25th, promises an even more diverse and critically acclaimed line up.

An already high standard has been raised, even higher and the promoters have truly out- done themselves by securing Regina Belle for Port Royal Music festival 2007.

Regina Belle is a Grammy award winning Rhythm and Blues (R and B) and contemporary urban vocalist who possesses exceptional technical ability, strength and the career to verify these claims.

Her sound is far more recognizable than her face, but Regina Belle boasts a string of timeless hits like ‘Show Me the Way’ (1987), ‘Baby Come to Me’ (1989), ‘Make It Like It Was’ (1989), ‘What Goes Around’ (1990), ‘Love T.K.O’ (1995) and ‘Ooh Boy’ (2001), and that’s just to name a few. Belle never fails to mesmerize audiences with her outstanding vocal abilities. Belle’s biggest musical success to date occurred in 1993, when she teamed up with Peabo Bryson for ‘A Whole New World for the Aladdin’ soundtrack. This single went gold and earned a number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. It also won a 1993 Billboard Award for “Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal”. Witnessing Regina Belle live is a rare and blessed occasion, and Port Royal have secured a real treasure in a performance from this R and B goddess.

Belle was born on July 17th 1963 in New Jersey. Her earliest exposure to music was through gospel and she eventually fell in love with R and B. Belle also studied the tambourine, tuba and steel drums before graduating Dwight Marrow High. She later went on to earn her degree in opera and jazz at Rutgers University. Belle started her career as the opening act for the Manhattans with whom she recorded ‘Where Did We Go Wrong’ in 1986 and earned a record deal with Columbia Records. In 1987 she released her debut album ‘All By Myself’ which was the beginning of a prolific music career.

Belle proved herself to be an ageless and versatile star when she scored another hit single with ‘Ooh Boy’ in 2001. With about fifteen years of success in the music industry Belle released her latest album, ‘Love Songs’, in 2006, and still makes very selective appearances.

“Regina Belle’s career is a true example of the standard that the Port Royal music festival aspires towards. She is a premier and iconic artiste of our time. Her soulful ballads exude great depth and warmth that will be sure to breathe life into the old pirate city. Port Royal is the perfect home for an R&B treasure like Regina Belle” commented Christopher Blythe, director of Paradise Communications.

It is always an honor when Belle accepts any invitation to perform and her inclusion in the line up will make Port Royal, once again, “the richest city on earth” from August 24- 26, thanks to the Port Royal Music festival.
