Reggae Ambassadors to perform at International Food Festival – Yam Jam

NEW YORK (IMAGES LLC) – International ‘Reggae Ambassadors” Third World, one of Jamaica’s most popular crossover reggae acts will join music legend Byron Lee & the Drangonaires and comedian Oliver Samuels as headline performers at the International Food Festival – ‘Yam Jam’ – on Sunday, July 27 2008 at Roy Wilkins Park, Queens, New York.

Formed in 1973, Third World made an immediate impact with their self titled debut album, which included a cover of the reggae classic “Satta Massagana,” originally recorded by The Abyssinians which soared to the top of the charts. The group followed with another powerful disc titled “96° In The Shade” which included several local hits. Third World however garnered their biggest international acclaim in the late 70s and early 80s, peaking with the The O’Jays cover – “Now That We Found Love” that became a major hit on both sides of the Atlantic. A follow up single – “Try Jah Love” – which was born from a collaboration with musical genius Steve Wonder was an international hit that cemented their place in music history, as one of the most successful reggae bands of all time.

“We are very excited to have an acclaimed reggae ensemble such as Third World, shear stage with music legend Bryron Lee and Oliver Samuels. All three demands respect for taking Jamaican/Caribbean culture internationally. I am elated we were able to pull it together” said event honcho Bobby Clarke, of Irie Jam Radio.

This year’s International Food Festival will be hosted by comedian Oliver Samuels. The king of laughter, who has won numerous accolades in his career including an Actor Boy Awards in Jamaica, is currently displaying his legendary comedic skills in Patrick Brown’s River Bottom where he plays Capo, the spiritual leader, MP and storm whisperer of River Bottom.

The International Food Festival will feature Caribbean foods from various islands, exciting rides for the kids, Dunk Tank, Moon Walk, Slides, Obstacle Course, performances by some of the finest New York acts and entertainment for the entire family.
