Prime Minister Golding of Jamaica announces Cabinet changes

KINGSTON, Jamaica – (JIS) Prime Minister Bruce Golding has announced a number of Cabinet changes which will see the appointment of Colonel Trevor MacMillan as Minister of National Security.

The Honourable Derrick Smith will assume the portfolio of Minister of Mining and Telecommunications while the Honourable Clive Mullings will be the Minister of Energy.

Mr. Golding said Colonel MacMillan will be appointed a Senator, the vacancy to facilitate this having been created by the resignation of Senator Ian Murray. Colonel MacMillan will be sworn in as a Senator and Cabinet Minister at Kings House tomorrow morning.

The Prime Minister has announced that Mr. Smith will assume his new duties after he has recovered fully from recent surgery. In the interim, Mr. Clive Mullings will continue to oversee the portfolio of Mining and Telecommunications. Mr. Smith will also be resuming his substantive responsibilities as Leader of the House and as the Minister responsible for Electoral Matters, the Prime Minister said.
