Political, Business, Faith, and Hip Hop Communities Banning Together to Escalate the Movement to Get TPS Granted for Undocumented Haitians

MIAMI – One year after four hurricanes ravaged Haiti’s crops, infrastructure, and left over a thousand dead and over a million homeless, desperate pleas to both the old and current administration for TPS for undocumented Haitians have gone unanswered.

Frustrated by the Obama Administration’s lack of action, members of the Faith Community, Business Community and Hip Hop Community in South Florida have been incited to ramp up the movement for TPS for Haitians.

These diverse communities are collaborating with Florida’s political figures and human rights activists to bring their message to President Obama that Haitians deserve fair and equal treatment in immigration.

A press conference has been scheduled for Monday, September 14, 2009 at 2:30 pm at the Jacque Dessaline Center Conference Room, 8325 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami to set off a series of local and national events highlighting the contributions of Haitians that will be lost if the US government does not provide TPS and a permanent solution to the crisis befallen the Haitians in the US and in Haiti.

These communities are calling out to Obama because “President Obama’s slogan was “CHANGE”, so we want to see the change in the treatment of Haitians from the way the previous administration treated us. We are not asking for TPS, we are asking for TPS FOR HAITIANS, because other nationalities have it but why not the Haitians, states Mecca, Haitian Hip Hop Artist and Poet.

This sentiment is echoed by religious leaders who have been advocating for humane treatment of Haitians from the pulpit. Ultimately, “TPS makes sense in every aspect for Washington and locally,” argues Johnson Napoleon, one of the business leaders who will join with reverends, politicians and music artists.

Actions scheduled for the week of September 14, 2009:

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 – National Rally in Front of White House, Washington, DC

Friday, September 18, 2009 – Tet Ansanm (Heads United) TPS Solidarity Vigil at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, Miami, FL.
