PM Douglas looks forward to working with new leader of St. Lucia
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister The Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas says he looks forward to working with the new Prime Minister of St. Lucia, Dr. the Hon. Kenny Anthony to achieve the goals set for both the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
Prime Minister Douglas in welcoming the newest Caribbean leader congratulated Mr. Anthony following his St. Lucia Labour Party (SLP) victory at the polls on Monday 28th November 2011.
“On behalf of the Government and people of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and on my own behalf, I welcome your return to the helm as Prime Minister of St. Lucia,” said Dr. Douglas in his congratulatory message.
Dr. Douglas noted that Dr. Anthony’s spirit and drive with “which you lead your people as Prime Minister from 1997-2006 continued throughout the five years in opposition.”
“These were your strengths that enabled you and the SLP to garner your people’s support, evidenced by the ten (10) seats secured by the SLP. These are the strengths, which when sustained, will guarantee your success to confront the challenges that St. Lucia as a Small Island Developing State will face, with its own vulnerabilities, in the next five years and beyond,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
“We have worked together in the past and you laboured then to advance the development of your country and people. Your approach and contributions to the region and the move toward integration were no less energetic,” said Prime Minister Douglas, who is also the current Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
