Overseas Private Investment Corporation to speak at Jamaican Diaspora Conference in New Jersey

NEW YORK – Ms. Beverly Smith, the Northeast Region Trade Council Sector Leader of the Jamaican Diaspora announced that the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, also known as OPIC, has confirmed Mr. Jacob Flewelling will speak at the inaugural 2007 Investment Conference and Trade Expo, entitled “Beautiful Beaches, Bountiful Business.”

The conference and trade expo will take place on Friday, October 19, 2007 at the Hilton Hasbrouck Heights & Executive Meeting Center.

The one-day conference aims at promoting joint ventures that will participate in the expanding opportunities in the Jamaican economy including Renewable Energy, Agriculture and Agro-Allied Industry, Information and Communication Technology, and Health & Wellness Tourism Services.

To support that objective, Mr. Jacob Flewelling will meet, one-on-one with registered attendees interested in OPIC’s financing and insurance services. “Only registered attendees, who apply for a one-on-one appointment, will be allowed to present a solid business prospectus for OPIC’s review,” said Ms. Smith. On-site appointments with OPIC are considered a strategic opportunity for Diaspora in the United States who distinguish Jamaica as a prime investment destination.

OPIC assists U.S. companies by providing financing (from large structured finance to small business loans), political risk insurance, and investment funds. OPIC complements the private sector in managing risks associated with foreign direct investment and supports U.S. foreign policy.

OPIC was established as an agency of the U.S. government in 1971 and currently does business in over 150 countries. For more information about OPIC, please visit www.opic.gov.
