Osei Xavier Opens Martial Arts Academy in Pompano Beach

Osei Xavier

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Veteran martial arts instructor Osei Xavier is known for helping students build confidence, discipline and competitive skills during his years at John Wai Martial Arts in Plantation. Now, he has opened The Camp Martial Arts Training Center, a new martial arts and fitness academy serving Broward County.

Located at 1616 S. Cypress Road in Pompano Beach, the academy offers training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, kickboxing, mixed martial arts, youth martial arts programs, fitness training and seasonal camps for children.

Mixed Martial Arts

Xavier brings more than 25 years of martial arts experience to the new venture. His background includes training and competition in Kung Fu, Muay Thai, Sanda and No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He holds a black belt in Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu and a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has earned multiple regional and international martial arts titles, including induction into the International Chinese Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

The opening marks a new chapter for Xavier, who has spent decades teaching students of all ages and skill levels while emphasizing personal growth alongside athletic development.

“Our mission is to help every person realize they are capable of being better than they currently think they are,” Xavier said. “Whether someone walks through our doors to learn self-defense, get in shape, compete or simply improve their quality of life, we want them to feel supported from day one.”

Functional Fitness

Founded on the belief that martial arts extend beyond competition and self-defense, The Camp Martial Arts Training Center focuses on building confidence, discipline and resilience in a supportive training environment. The academy welcomes beginners and experienced athletes alike and offers programs designed for children, teens and adults.

Xavier said the academy’s approach centers on community, encouraging members to support one another while pursuing individual goals. The facility aims to serve students throughout Pompano Beach, Fort Lauderdale and neighboring Broward County communities.

Inspired by martial arts icons such as Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, Xavier began his journey after watching kung fu films as a child. What started as a childhood fascination evolved into a lifelong career as a competitor, coach and mentor. His personal philosophy — “How you do anything is how you do everything” — continues to guide his teaching and leadership.

As interest in martial arts and functional fitness continues to grow, The Camp Martial Arts Training Center seeks to provide a welcoming space where students can improve their health, learn practical skills and reach their full potential.
