OFA-FL Supporters and Students at Miami-Dade College to Hold a Voter Registration Drive

MIAMI – As the October 9th voter registration deadline approaches, students from Miami-Dade College (Kendall Campus, 11011 SW 104th St Miami) will hold a voter registration drive across campus, encouraging their peers and local supporters to get involved with the campaign and to vote for President Obama on Election Day.

President Obama knows Americans have a choice in this election between two competing visions of how to grow the economy, create more jobs and pay down the debt, and from day one, education funding has been at the forefront of his vision toward creating an economy built to last.

President Obama understands tuition demands can be a make or break moment for students, and through his kept promise, the President cut big banks from the middle and doubled federal loans, including Pell Grant funding. Now, because of President Obama’s determination, over 10 million students can now go to class and work toward achieving their dreams.

If Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan had their way, the burden of loans would weigh heavy on the backs of students. With their current plan, Romney-Ryan have proposed reinstating the middle man for the federal loan process, causing higher interest rates for students who are just getting on their feet. And to make matters worse, their plan would slash federal loan funding, and as Romney put it, would force students to “shop around” in order to pay for schooling. These policies are simply out of touch and do not represent the hard-working families who fight every day to better the lives for their children’s future. Students rely on a leader who will have their back, and because of President Obama and his commitment to the middle class, they now have a fair shot at success.

From now and until Election Day, supporters and volunteers know that in order to win Florida for the President, they must register voters and build enthusiasm from the ground up. From Jacksonville to Orlando and to Miami, supporters and volunteers, including students, are going block-by-block and neighborhood-by-neighborhood with their peers, friends, and family, talking to them about the issues that matter for the next four years and beyond.
