OAS Secretary General Expresses Satisfaction With Award Of Nobel Peace Prize To President Obama

WASHINGTON, DC – The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today expressed satisfaction that the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the President of the United States, Barack Obama.

“We congratulate the President of the United States for this well-deserved recognition of his efforts towards a more just, balanced and peaceful world. This award is evidence of the hope that his leadership has awakened in the entire planet and is consonant with the trust that millions of men and women have placed in a new beginning for international relations.

“A new beginning took place in inter-American relations last April during the Fifth Summit of the Americas, held in Trinidad and Tobago, when President Obama encouraged the leaders of the hemisphere to build together a new road, a road of understanding, of mutual cooperation, and of promotion of shared values.”
