OAS Hosts Haiti Relief Fundraiser

WASHINGTON – In a show of solidarity and as part of its ongoing efforts to mobilize resources and help bring major relief to the people of Haiti, the Organization of American States Assistant Secretary General, Albert R. Ramdin and Friends of Haiti will host a special fundraising reception at the historic Hall of the Americas of the Organization of American States, tomorrow January 22 at 6:00 p.m. “In these difficult days experienced by the people of a founding member of the OAS, we each have to reach out and assist the Haitian people in their time of need. Let this be the moment we show our steadfast commitment,” Ramdin urged.

Renowned Haitian art collector Fritz Racine, President of the Haitian Art Society of the Washington Metropolitan Area has generously donated a painting by a famous Haitian artist to be auctioned at the event. In reflecting on the catastrophe that has befallen his native Haiti, Racine said “I am pleased to be able to make this contribution and to show the way we would like the country to be, filled with joy and greenery. That’s not the way it is now. We must rebuild.”

The fundraiser will also showcase some of the finest wines and spirits of the Americas generously donated by OAS Member States and Friends of Haiti. Proceeds will be handed over to the Pan-American Development Foundation, an affiliate and natural disaster relief arm of the Organization of American States to leverage additional financial support to help the earthquake relief effort.

Invited guests include OAS leadership, Haitian diplomats, policymakers and representatives of international organizations who are working together to provide both immediate relief and long-term support to Haiti.
