NFL to offer free business workshops for South Florida’s Small, Minority & Women-Owned Firms

MIAMI – The NFL has partnered with Sprint to deliver a series of business development workshops specifically designed to meet the needs of South Florida’s booming minority- and women-owned small business community.

“Super Bowl XLI Playbook for Small Business Workshop Series” will offer local business owners free professional development forums and will be held throughout Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties during December and January. The NFL has co-hosted the same series in past Super Bowl host cities as part of their community outreach program.

The Series includes eight sessions featuring topics to help small, minority and women- owned firms develop and launch new business strategies, learn to use marketing, technology and research to grow their client bases, and work strategically to plan their company’s future. It is being produced locally by Celsius Holdings Inc., a Miami area company specializing in strategic planning, public relations and multicultural marketing.

According to a recent assessment, start-ups and new firms in South Florida are three-times as likely to be owned by African Americans or Hispanic as compared to the nation as a whole. And according to the U.S. Small Business Administration, Florida ranks third in the nation for women-owned firms with 437,415 firms as of 2002.

“One of the most rewarding benefits of the Super Bowl is the opportunity for us to partner with leading organizations to help create events that will leave a lasting legacy on the host region,” said Beth Colleton, NFL Director of Community Ventures. “We are proud to partner with Sprint to launch this series which will offer important business education and leadership development for up and coming minority leaders in South Florida.”

The Super Bowl XLI Playbook for Small Business Workshop Series partners local minority Chambers of Commerce, affiliate partners, and civic organizations to create a nexus of support for women- and minority-owned start-ups and burgeoning firms.

The next workshop will be held on Friday, December 15 at the Double Tree Hotel, 1717 North Bayshore Drive in Miami. This workshop will focus on, “Certification Programs: What’s In It For Me? How to leverage set aside programs”.

As partners with the NFL’s Super Bowl XLI Community Impact Program, Sprint will have a strong presence in the workshop series lead with local business management and communications firm, Celsius Holdings Corp. of Jupiter, Fla.

“Sprint is proud to be a part of this ground-breaking workshop series,” said Bob Halcrow, Sprint area vice president, Florida. “Small minority- and women-owned businesses are not only integral to the nation’s economy but are also the backbone of our local communities where Sprint also conducts business.”
