Montserrat Tourist Board appoints new Board of Directors

MONTSERRAT A new Board of Directors has been appointed for the Montserrat Tourist Board (MTB), with tourism entrepreneur John Ponteen serving as its new Chairman.

The other directors appointed to the MTB are businessman Bennette Roach, Veronica Hickson of Montserrat Enterprises, Carol Osborne of the Vue Pointe Hotel, tour operator Jadine Glitzenhirn, Susan Edgecombe of Tradewinds Villas, President of the Montserrat Hospitality Association Florence Griffith-Joseph, tour operator Lenroy “Slym” Daley, and Permanent Secretary of the Development Unit, Angela Greenaway. Director of Tourism for the MTB Ernestine Cassell will serve as an ex-officio member.

Ponteen brings to the post 25 years of tourism experience having previously held managerial positions at hotels in Montserrat and the United Kingdom. “I will be meeting regularly with the other directors and MTB staff to ensure that adequate information sharing takes place and tourism development initiatives stay on track,” said Ponteen. The new Chairman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hospitality Management from Westminster University in the UK.

Chief Minister the Hon. Dr. Lowell Lewis, expressed his pleasure with the new appointments. “I wish to congratulate the new Chairman and his team on their appointment. Mr. Ponteen and his team bring a wealth of experience in tourism and knowledge of the Montserrat product to the table. I am confident that they will be able to accelerate the process of rejuvenating Montserrat’s tourism sector so that once again it becomes a pillar of our economy.”
