Minority Development & Empowerment, Inc. Spirit of Excellence Award winners selected

MIAMIM— Minority Development & Empowerment, Inc. is proud to announce the 2007 winners of the Spirit of Excellence Awards:

Dr. Rudolph Crew, Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools has been selected to receive the Individual Spirit of Excellence award.

Dr. Crew was nominated by Dr. Rudolph Moise who stated the following: “Dr. Crew has consistently advocated for improving educational opportunities that enhances achievement for children in the Caribbean Community and he has significantly improved the dialogue with the families of these students.

As an educational leader, Dr. Crew has demonstrated the courage it takes to make the difficult choices necessary to implement the changes needed for realizing the vision of education excellence for ALL students in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools.”

Frandy Manasse, a student at Atlantic Community High School in Delray Beach was selected to receive one of the Youth Spirit of Excellence Awards. Mr. Manasse will receive a full tuition scholarship for one year, donated by Broward Community College.

Malik Creary, a student at Fort Lauderdale High School, was also selected to receive a Youth Award: A $500 scholarship to the institution of his choice. Both students had to demonstrate strength of character and write an essay on the meaning of Haitian Flag Day.

Minority Development & Empowerment, Inc. is honored to recognize these individuals for 2007.

The recipients will be acknowledged during the V.I.P. Reception for the Haitian Flag Day Celebration scheduled for Friday, May 18th at Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale, with guest headliner, Emeline Michel.
