Works Of Renowned Jamaican Artist, Michael Escoffery Graces The Walls Of The Embassy of Jamaica

Washington,  DC –  Works by renowned Jamaican artist, Michael Escoffery are gracing the halls of the Embassy of Jamaica in Washington, DC.

The exhibition was launched on Emancipation Day, August 1, 2016 will be open to the public until Friday, August 5.

The exhibit which comprises over 100 pieces of art was officially declared open by Charge d ‘Affairs of the Embassy of Jamaica, Mrs. Marsha Coore Lobban in the presence of a large gathering of the Diplomatic Corps, Jamaican, Caribbean and other international art lovers.

In welcoming Michael Escoffery and other well-wishers to the embassy, Mrs. Coore Lobban remarked that the collection on display helps to bring beauty, joy and tranquillity to the Jamaican mission while showcasing Jamaica’s talent of the highest quality.

“Mr. Escoffery presents his history in a different form, as you can see in each piece, the beauty of God’s feminine creation.  These various images and forms represent the richness and diversity of Jamaican culture which we are proud to showcase to the world”, said Mrs. Coore Lobban.

Jamaica’s top diplomat said the Embassy of Jamaica is very pleased that this art exhibition forms part of our emancipation and independence activities.

Traditionally, the embassy has endeavoured to showcase various aspects of brand Jamaica for which we as Jamaicans are all very proud and for which we are known globally.  This includes the physical beauty of our island, food, sports and culture depicted through various forms of art and music.

Michael Escoffery, in his remarks said he was very honoured to showcase his work as a part of the Embassy’s celebration to mark Jamaica’s 54^th year of independence and 174^th anniversary of emancipation.

He pointed out that the works on display which include paintings, drawings, sculptures and posters are among some of the finest of his works.  He said the essence of the exhibition captures the beauty of women.  As we celebrate emancipation, he said he is reminded of the part Queen Nanny played in fighting for our country’s freedom.

Heading the list of attendees to the exhibition were Bolivia’s Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Diego Pary, Permanent Representation of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the OAS, Ambassador Bernardo Alvarez, Jamaica’s Alternate Representative to the OAS, Mrs. Juliette Hyatt and Minister Council for Trade at the Embassy of Jamaica, Mrs. Ariel Bowen.
