Miami Dolphins and Florida’s Blood Centers teaming up to save lives

MIAMI GARDENS – The Miami Dolphins and Florida’s Blood Centers (FBC) will hold the second annual Touchdown for Life blood drive presented by Publix on Tuesday, October 19 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Sun Life Stadium. This year, the Dolphins and FBC hope to collect over 1,500 pints of blood and again host one of the biggest one-day blood drives in Florida.

“We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of fan support in our first year of this important community blood drive,” said Mike Dee, Dolphins’ CEO. “With the ever-growing need for blood in South Florida and throughout the state, our goal this year is even higher. We urge all those in South Florida to join us at Sun Life Stadium for this annual tradition.”

Fans who participate on October 19 will have the opportunity to meet players, cheerleaders and alumni, obtain autographs and get a behind-the-scenes look at Sun Life Stadium, including access to the field and tours of the Dolphins locker room. The first 1,500 registered participants will receive a free ticket to the December 26 Miami Dolphins game against the Detroit Lions, a free Dolphins blood drive t-shirt, courtesy of Publix, and they will be recognized in a pregame on-field ceremony. Additionally, the day will feature entertainment such as music, video games, face painters and magic acts.

During the inaugural blood drive last year, more than 1,000 pints of blood were collected over a 12-hour period, making it one of Florida’s most successful blood drives.

“One in three of us will need blood in our lifetime,” said Mike Pratt, FBC’s chief operating officer and interim CEO. “We are grateful to the Dolphins for helping us call attention to the daily need for blood donations and the importance of being prepared for any disaster or medical need facing our community. Blood donations help save the lives of trauma patients, premature babies, cancer patients and those facing planned or unplanned medical procedures.”
