Maryse Condé at the African-American Research Library, Pre-Conference for the Pan-African Bookfest

BROWARD COUNTY – For readers anxiously awaiting the Pan-African Bookfest, Broward County Libraries will host a pre-conference event featuring Maryse Condé on April 8, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center located at 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale.

Condé, a native of Guadeloupe, is renowned for her bestselling historical novels, Segu and I, Tituba, Black Witch of Salem, in which she explores colonialism, sex, gender and the stereotypical images of literary characters.
During her career, Condé has written numerous children’s books and articles about Caribbean literature and cultural studies including Haϊtí Chérie and Winward Heights. She has also contributed to writing about other women writers and oral literatures in Martinique and Guadeloupe. Condé currently serves as a professor at Princeton University.
