Lovebird Kids’ Club benefits from Air Jamaica’s Gospel Fest

FT. LAUDERDALE – About 300 people turned out to enjoy an afternoon of reggae Gospel at New Testament Church of God in Ft. Lauderdale, this past Saturday. The gospel fest was a benefit for Lovebird Kids’ Club, a Miami-based nonprofit organization created by Air Jamaica to help children in the Caribbean and the United States.

Lovebird Kids’ Club has established reading labs, complete with computers and TVs, in schools in 11 schools throughout the Caribbean such as Jamaica, St. Lucia, Grenada and Antigua, said Kaye Chong, Community Manager.

“In the Caribbean, we create learning centers with books, a library and computers at the schools. It really is a beautiful thing,” said Chong.

The club has also completed academic projects in 25 classrooms in the United States which includes, Norland Elementary School in Miami and Oriole Elementary in Fort Lauderdale.

Julia Jolly, an Air Jamaica Marketing Manager, said the airline hopes to make the gospel fest an annual event and expand it to the cities it flies into, such as Chicago, Orlando, Baltimore and New York City.

“It’s one way of saying thanks to our community for their support,” Jolly said. “Gospel is near and dear to our Caribbean people.”
