Little Haiti Optimist Club forms to Serve the Youth of Little Haiti

Miami – The Little Haiti Optimist Club (LHOC) is a non-profit organization established in March of 2010 by a group of business, community and civic leaders to provide assistance, guidance and programs to the youth of Little Haiti.

The organization is affiliated with the International Optimist, an association of more than 3,000 Optimist Clubs around the world dedicated to “Bringing Out the Best in Kids.” The mission of the Little Haiti Optimist is to make a difference in the lives of youth by providing education, mentorship, athletics, arts and cultural programming.

LHOC’s goal is to be the premier organization providing programs to prepare the youth of Little Haiti for academic and life excellence.

The Little Haiti Optimist Club will serve the youth of Little Haiti. The board of directors of the organization is made up of business owners, community and civic leaders that are committed to helping the youth of Little Haiti. Board members have a wide range of experience in fundraising, organizational development, marketing and youth programming. “We want to be the catalyst to prevent the youth of Little Haiti from the negatives of juvenile delinquency, vulnerability to gun violence, performing poorly academically, teen pregnancy and gang affiliations. Little Haiti’s youth have been identified as the most at-risk group in our community. The Little Haiti Optimist Club wants to change these vulnerable children’s circumstances by providing them team sports activities, mentors, college preparation, academic, cultural arts and life skills programs”, said Marie Louissaint the organization’s president.

Membership in the Little Haiti Optimist Club is open to all who want to support the youth of Little Haiti. Also, there are volunteer opportunities for tutors and coaches.

To introduce the community to the Little Haiti Optimist Club, the organization will have a booth at the Compas Festival, Saturday, May 15th. At the booth parents can register their children for summer programs & activities. In addition, attendees will be able to join the organization, sign up for volunteer opportunities, purchase raffle tickets, spin the wheel and enter to win great prizes all to benefit the club.
