Laparkan Shipping extends condolences to Haiti

MIAMI – Laparkan Shipping has extended its condolences to the Government and People of Haiti on the loss of life and devastation caused by Tuesday’s tragic earthquake and has offered access to its warehouse space for use as a staging area for emergency supplies being airlifted to Haiti.

Laparkan is working with the Americas Relief Team (ART) which comprises a number of private sector companies and relief agencies in facilitating logistical support to relief efforts.

Laparkan was also represented Thursday at a meeting of the CARICOM Consular Corps in Miami at which strategies and procedures for accepting and coordinating donations of relief supplies from community organizations was discussed. The company’s network of offices and warehouses in Miami, New York, Maryland, Georgia and throughout the Caribbean are involved in supporting relief efforts to the ravaged French-speaking Caribbean island-nation.

In a condolence message sent Wednesday to Haiti’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Raymond Joseph, Laparkan Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Glenn Khan said that the company “stands ready” to contribute to the relief efforts being undertaken.

“It is with a deep sense of sadness that we at Laparkan Shipping have learnt of the tragic loss of life and devastation which has befallen your country as a result of yesterday’s earthquake. We take this opportunity to extend our condolences to the Government and People of the Republic of Haiti on this catastrophe.

“Laparkan will continue to monitor the situation in Haiti and stands ready to offer its assistance to the relief efforts. We have set up a committee within the company to assess how best Laparkan might contribute to the relief efforts. We will contact the Caribbean Shipping Association to determine how we might best coordinate these efforts.” Mr. Khan said in his condolence message.

Haiti is among the Caribbean nations to which Laparkan offers shipping services from the United States.
