JNBS Receives Top Honour from the Jamaica Cancer Society

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) was the recipient of the top fundraiser award at the Jamaica Cancer Society’s (JCS) Relay for Life Awards Ceremony on Monday, July 7 at the Terra Nova Hotel in Kingston, for raising some $1.4 million during last month’s staging of the annual event.

It was the second consecutive year that JNBS was being honoured by the JCS, after raising over $1.2 million last year. Kirk Distributors Limited received this year’s silver award for raising the second highest amount and Seaboard Freight and Shipping, the bronze award.

JNBS, which focused its efforts on educating patrons attending last month’s event about thyroid cancer, was also awarded by JCS for Best Tent and Best T-shirt, which promoted its educational focus. In addition, JNBS team coordinator, AnnMarie Kirlew Williams, received awards for Best Individual Fundraiser, which she shared with Beverley Robotham-Reynolds of Island Dolls Limited; and Spirit of Relay, shared with Patsy Lyn Caterers, Hillel Academy and Cancer Conscious Youths.

The Gleaner, Advantage General Insurance Company Limited, Patsy Lyn Caterers and JNBS were honoured by JCS for their commitment and dedication to the fight against cancer.

JCS raised a total $11.5 million through corporate support at Relay for Life this year, which was held at the Police Officers’ Club in St. Andrew. A second event is slated for northern Jamaica at the Turtle River Park in Ocho Rios, St. Ann for July 26 and 27. Proceeds from the annual Relay for Life are used to assist cancer patients in need of care and treatment.
