JAMPRO leads Jamaican delegation to FIHAV Trade Show in Cuba

Kingston, Jamaica – The Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) is currently leading a delegation of Jamaican companies to the Feria Internacional de la Habana (FIHAV) 2014 Trade Show that is being held from November 2-8 at the Expocuba Fairground in Havana, Cuba. Following a successful market visit to Cuba, the agency aims to use this platform to enhance the presence of Brand Jamaica in the region and host meetings between Jamaican companies and Cuban entities to encourage trade.

FIHAV is Cuba’s largest and most important trade event, this being its 32nd year; it attracts over 4,500 exhibitors and participants from over 60 countries. It is one of the major exhibitions in the region, displaying high quality products from the Caribbean and Latin America. This will be JAMPRO’s 7th year participating in the FIHAV Trade Show.

The agency partnered with EXIM Bank Jamaica, the Cuban Chamber of Commerce and Jamaican and Cuban Embassies to prepare for this event by facilitating a Cuban trade mission to Jamaica in July 2014 and a market visit to Cuba in September 2014. These missions supported JAMPRO’s strategy to boost trade between Jamaica and Cuba by hosting meetings between Jamaican and Cuban businesses and government representatives. Participation in FIHAV is a crucial follow up step for these Jamaican companies to expose their products to the Cuban market and build strategic business relationships.

JAMPRO’s participation in FIHAV has proved valuable for local companies trying to enter the Cuban market. Jamaican products that have been successful in the market include, agricultural chemical and fertilisers, along with some food items. The agency plans to continue targeting the Cuban market through direct interface between JAMPRO and the Cuban agencies responsible for procuring products and trade shows like FIHAV. Manager of Market Development at JAMPRO, Berletta Henlon Forrester says, “Jamaica and Cuba’s long history of social and cultural connection provides the perfect background for more business exchange between the two countries. JAMPRO will take a direct approach to ensure that Jamaican products have an increased chance to enter the Cuban market.”
