Jamaica’s University Singers Make South Florida Debut At Broward Center

FORT LAUDERDALE – The internationally acclaimed University Singers of the West Indies (UWI) presents their much anticipated “From Mozart to Marley” in their South Florida debut on Saturday, July 16 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 17 at 5 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

The University Singers have consistently created music that caters to a wide variety of patrons and appeals to any musical palette. They methodically and consistently raise the musical bar as they continue to thrill audiences under masterful direction at home and abroad.

The UWI Singers continue to be a premier musical group in the English speaking Caribbean. Performances are guaranteed to be exhilarating, energy-filled and captivating as this versatile Caribbean choral group performs an incredible array of styles including classical, American Negro Spiritual, Jazz, Folk, Gospel and Reggae to impeccable standards. The UWI Singers have performed throughout the world in Europe, the United States and the Caribbean and for notable leaders including former South African President Nelson Mandela and Queen Elizabeth II.

The mission of the University Singers has remained the same throughout its years of existence: to share the joy of making music together for the entertainment of its audiences, while at all times retaining a high standard of musical expression, and remaining true to its objectives of being a standard bearer of Caribbean music and an ambassador for the University of the West Indies.

From Mozart to Marley or Beethovan to Buju, the University Singers of the West Indies has mastered these musical styles and every genre in between.

The show is part of the Broward Center’s Arts Access program, which assists community-based organizations in presenting arts and cultural performances at the Broward Center. The program provides technical assistance and marketing support to local community groups enabling them to develop and build their audiences. The Arts Access has collaborated with nearly 50 performing arts companies, nonprofit organizations and cultural and community groups to present all genres of the performing arts including music, dance, theater, poetry and comedy.

Tickets are $35 and $50. VIP tickets including a pre-show reception are available for $70 for Saturday, July 16 only. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is located in the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District at 201 SW Fifth Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.
