KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Hon. Olivia Grange, has sent congratulations to members of the Jamaican netball team, the Sunshine Girls, who finished second in the inaugural World Series in Manchester, England, on October 11. The tournament was won by New Zealand.
The Minister had followed the progress of the Sunshine Girls, in between her appointments at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisaton (UNESCO) General Conference in Paris.
In her message to the team, Minister Grange said that, “I am absolutely proud of every member of the Sunshine Girls. You have been working very hard and your efforts are paying off.”
“You have done well in a world tournament played for the first time and under new rules. That you were able to adapt and perform so well, shows the depth of your talent and class,” she added.
The Minister said that with this achievement, the netballers have moved a step closer to achieving the national goal of being the world’s top netball nation.
“As I told you last month, the Government of Jamaica will stand with you and support you all the way. We have finished second in a world tournament, and we can finish first. I am confident we will do it before long. “Hearty congratulations. All of Jamaica is proud of you,” Miss Grange said.
