Kingston, Jamaica – The National Competitiveness Council will host the annual Business Environment Reform Roundtable on February 26, 2015 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston. The 5th staging of the event aims to promote collaboration between the private and public sectors to improve the ease of doing business in Jamaica.
The Business Environment Reform Roundtable will engage Jamaica’s private and public sector partners on issues relating to business climate reform and competitiveness. The Honourable G. Anthony Hylton, Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, President of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), William Mahfood and others will be leading discussions at the event, which has become the principal forum to update the nation on reforms being executed and managed by the Council.
As the country makes significant strides in improving competitiveness, the NCC plans to pursue initiatives that will further improve the ease of doing business in Jamaica. This year’s Roundtable will be focused on collaboration and will make a concerted effort to unearth key private sector reforms that can further aid in improving the business climate.
Vice President of Corporate Development & Competitiveness, Shullette Cox notes that JAMPRO through the work of the National Competitiveness Council is integral to the implementation and monitoring of reforms as outlined in the Business Environment Reform Agenda. She says the agency’s commitment to public-private partnership regarding business reform will be illustrated at the event, “The Roundtable will strengthen the Council’s goal of encouraging public and private sector interaction and engagement in the creation of reforms to improve the local business environment. We continue to work closely with our private and public sector partners to address investor concerns regarding challenges to doing business in Jamaica,” she said.
The Government recognises that partnership with the private sector as a trusted advisor on issues of competitiveness is key to making initiatives to reform the business environment successful. The National Competitiveness Council is committed to facilitating the necessary discussion needed to further involve the private sector in its efforts to encourage the passing of reforms.
