KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Dr. the Hon Kenneth Baugh, has announced the appointment of Ambassador Sheila Sealy-Monteith, as Jamaica’s High Commissioner-designate to Canada.
Mrs. Sealy-Monteith succeeds Ambassador Evadne Coye, C.D., who assumed the office of Permanent Secretary in the Foreign Ministry, last November.
A career diplomat, Mrs. Sealy-Monteith was appointed Jamaica’s Ambassador to Mexico in August, 2005, after serving as Director, International Organizations Department in the Ministry. That Embassy also has responsibility for relations with Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.

The High Commissioner-designate has worked in the Jamaica Foreign Service for 23 years and has served in Jamaica’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, as well as, in the Embassy in Venezuela. She holds a Diploma and Masters in International Relations from the University of the West Indies (UWI).
Mrs. Sealy-Monteith taught Spanish and English at Vere Technical High School, Clarendon, then returned to her alma mater, Glenmuir High School, in the same parish, where she taught Spanish before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1986, She is married with two children.
She is expected to take up office on Monday, February 15.
