Jamaica’s Finance Minister to Address to the 33rd Miami Conference on Jamaica and Central America

MIAMI – Jamaica’s Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Hon Audley Shaw, will give the keynote address at the opening reception of the 33rd Miami Conference on Jamaica and Central America in Miami, today Monday (Nov. 29).

Minister Shaw is expected to address critical issues facing the Jamaican economy; the country’s imminent re-engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF); major reforms being undertaken to transform the system of governance and achieve sustained development; as well as public and private sector initiatives being pursued to maximise current and emerging investment opportunities.

Minister Shaw will also emphasize opportunities in such areas as Information Communications Technology (ICT); processed food for the export market; tourism linkages; the establishment of an international financial centre downtown Kingston; plans for massive housing solutions for Jamaica’s tourism workers; as well as direct investment opportunities in the tourist industry.

The 33rd Miami Conference on Jamaica and Central America is sponsored by Caribbean and Latin American Action (CLAA) and brings together government representatives and leading private sector interests to discuss development, trade and investment issues going forward.

This year’s conference will highlight how governments and private sectors of the Caribbean and Latin America are addressing the multiple economic and political events that have dominated the international and regional agenda during the past year and how the international partners are working with the region, to address these challenges.
