Jamaicans.com Best of 2010 poll results

PEMBROKE PINES – If you’re planning a trip to Jamaica and want to know about the best of the best in Jamaica, look no further than the results for the Best of Jamaica poll. The winners can be found at Jamaicans.com (http://www.jamaicans.com/bestofjamaica) . Winners in all categories are named.

“Jamaican influences can be found worldwide and the poll is a celebration of the food, entertainment, people and culture that is uniquely Jamaican,” said Xavier Murphy, founder and CEO of Jamaicans.com

Those named as the best reflect the opinions of individuals who have experience with the people and businesses on which they vote. Celebrities were a favorite category in this year’s event. Oliver Samuels was voted as the best Jamaican actor. He’s best known for his comedy and television series, “Oliver at Large.” Audrey Reid walked away with the title of best actress for her film role as Marcia in “Dancehall Queen.”

Chosen as the best reggae artist was Taurus Riley and the best new artist was Khargo. Third World was named as the best reggae band, while Raggashanti was chosen as the best radio personality.

Jamaica is also home to a number of athletes the category was another favorite of voters. Named as the best cricket player was Chris Gayle and the best track athlete was Usain Bolt. Fabian Davis received the designation as best football player.

A wide variety of additional categories was featured in the poll. Participants had the opportunity to vote for their favorite restaurants, beaches, radio stations and newspapers. Also voted upon were top websites, craft and souvenir shops, and accommodations, as well as cultural and tourist attractions.

The poll represented voting results for the island of Jamaica, and the U.S. cities of Atlanta; Boston; Chicago; Dallas; Washington, D.C.; Hartford; Houston; Los Angeles; Miami/Ft. Lauderdale; New Jersey; New York; Orlando; Palm Beach; Philadelphia; and San Francisco. Also weighing in was London, England and Toronto, Canada.
