Jamaican Radio Personalities to be honored at Jamaican Independence celebration in Miramar

MIRAMAR – As part of the many events taking place in South Florida to celebrate Jamaica’s 48th anniversary of Independence, the United Friends of Highgate, Incorporated will honor several Jamaican radio personalities for their service to the community. Presentations to those honored will be made on Sunday, August 8, at the Jamaican Independence Celebration – 2010, at Miramar Regional Park.

In recognizing excellence and long service, the members of United Friends of Highgate decided that each year they would recognize persons, from a select group, who have contributed positively to the development of the Jamaican community in South Florida. This year, radio personalities with over 20 years of continuous service were chosen for the important role they have played in the cultural and economical development of the community.

The Radio personalities to be honored this year are Winsome Charlton, Ron Burke, Denver “Jamusa” Silvera, Pat Montague, Dr. L Pearce (Bro. Pearce), John “T” Hodgson, Eddy Edwards, Winston Barnes, Don Daly, Howard “Flagga” Duperly and Mike Aitcheson. All have served the community for over twenty years and have made quite an impact with the presentation of their various programs.

In consideration of the difficulties and sacrifices experienced in presenting our music and information to the Jamaican Community, members of the United Friends of Highgate agreed that it was most fitting to select our first honorees from this group.
