Jamaica vs. Trinidad: 2009 Lauderhill-MAQT20 International Night Cricket Tournament

LAUDERHILL – After fifteen grueling weeks of highly competitive cricket competition, Cricket Council USA (CCUSA) and the City of Lauderhill congratulate the Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago cricket teams for advancing to the finals of the 2009 Lauderhill-MAQT20 International Night Cricket Tournament.

On Saturday, April 25, 2009, at 5:00 pm, the Lauderhill Sports Park, located at Oakland Boulevard and University Drive, Lauderhill, will kick off the “Cricket Night of Champions with the effervescent sounds of the Rising Star Steel Pan Band. A brief opening ceremony will follow including the MAQT20 song, the National Anthem and the official coin toss.

After the 5:00 PM kick-off ceremonies, the six-time-defending-champion, Team Jamaica will face the up-coming Trinidad & Tobago team, making its first Championship Game appearance in the history of Lauderhill Night Cricket.

In between innings, recording artist Hal Anthony will perform in addition to Twiggy, Million, Culture Callie and Latiy Gouzang. After the game, a closing ceremony will include awarding the champion team with the Mayor’s Cup and winning purse from Cricket Council USA. In addition, awards will be given to the tournament’s outstanding players.

This year’s tournament was the most successful of the seven cricket seasons, enjoying record-breaking crowds each Saturday night at the Lauderhill Sports Park. Underwritten by the Cricket Council USA and the City of Lauderhill, fans have been thrilled by the high level cricket played by the teams representing: Lauderhill, Jamaica, Trinidad-&-Tobago, Guyana, Barbados, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Leeward Islands and Windard Islands. The City and CCUSA are thrilled with the excitement and growing interest in the game of cricket generated by the Night Cricket Tournament.
