Jamaica Seeks More Tourism From Dominican Republic and Brazil

Minister Bartlett to Spearhead Marketing Initiatives in the Dominican Republic and Brazil

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s  Minister of Tourism Hon. Edmund Bartlett heads to the Dominican Republic and Brazil where he will spearhead the Ministry’s drive to pursue aggressive growth and marketing strategies to further develop Jamaica’s tourism sector..

The Minister will attend several meetings with key tourism partners in the Dominican Republic, before participating in a series of marketing activities associated with Jamaica House – Rio 2016, the unique facility established by the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) to market the destination during the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

While in the Dominican Republic, Minister Bartlett is slated to attend the grand opening of Karisma Hotel and Resorts newest hotel, the Nickelodeon Experience, on August 16.

There, he will also participate in meetings with partners from TUI, top executives of Karisma Hotel and Resorts and the principal directors of resorts in Punta Cana, to discuss possible hotel developments in Jamaica.

He is also set to attend the inauguration of the President of the Dominican Republic Danilo Medina, before departing to Rio de Janeiro on August 17 for Jamaica House – Rio 2016.

“I am excited at the prospects that Jamaica House 2016 will afford us. It will provide us an opportunity to promote destination Jamaica and to increase the number of visitors from Brazil as well as neighbouring markets in South America,” said Minister Bartlett.

Jamaica House – Rio 2016 is designed to leverage the Olympic Games to promote brand Jamaica and generate awareness of the destination. Jamaica House will run from August 10 to 21 at The Jockey Club, South of Rio.

Jamaica House is a concept that was first developed around the London 2012 Olympic Games. It will provide visitors with the opportunity to experience Jamaican culture in an interactive way. It will operate daily from 2 pm to midnight with a host of activities, including destination presentations to the travel trade, culinary exposés, consumer promotions, VIP client hosting and live viewing of the races.

While in the Dominican Republic, the Minister will be accompanied by the Chairman of the JTB, Mr. John Lynch. The Director of Tourism, Mr. Paul Pennicook, will accompany Minister Bartlett to Brazil. The Minister is expected to return to the island on August 21, 2016.
