Jamaica National Building Society launches New Organisational Crest

The JNBS Crest: Placing a Stamp on Mutuality

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The official crest of Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) was launched at the organisation’s 136th Annual General Meeting, held in September, at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston. The symbol graphically articulates the Society’s commitment to its core business and allegiance to mutuality.

“The images and words on the crest convey the message that, we are committed to upholding the honour, values and traditions of the Society, as well as, its vow to members to help them find a way,” said Mrs. Michele Pollard Gonzalez, Senior Manager Customer Service and JN Member Ombudsman.

The family is represented in the crest by a black and white silhouette of a nuclear family unit. The image is symbolic of all Jamaican families, and points to their common objective—that of owning their own home.

“At the same time, the main elements of the crest depict the core business of the Society,” Mrs. Gonzalez explained, noting that, “Jamaica National opens doors for members to access financial opportunities, facilitates home ownership for families, and contributes to the sustainable development of our country.”

She said that the depiction of the crane and the building shows the Society’s commitment to fuelling the growth of industry and commerce in Jamaica.

“The crane itself is symbolic of the productive sector, galvanising the economy and stimulating national development,” the Senior Manager interpreted.

Mrs. Gonzalez also described the finishing touches of the crest, noting that, “the gold trim on the circular, embossed border and banner symbolises strength and continuity. And, the gold ribbon at the base of the crest is symbolic of a seal—the seal, which represents Jamaica National’s commitment to Jamaica and Jamaicans.”

The JN crest, designed by The Creative Unit, the award-winning multi-media Agency, and a subsidiary of Jamaica National, was used as a “motif” throughout the Society’s 2010 Annual Report; and members attending the AGM received a commemorative book mark, with the crest and its denotation.

“We plan to use this symbol in our print collateral material, where appropriate, as we go forward; and hope that what it represents will empower our members in their own quest to attain their financial aspirations,” the JN Member Ombudsman maintained.

Earl Jarrett, General Manager, Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), stands under the new JN Crest as he addresses the 136th Annual General Meeting in the Grand Jamaica Suite of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Wednesday, September 22.
