Jamaica Leads The Caribbean Region in Travel + Leisure’s 2009 World’s Best Awards Readers’ Survey
Jamaica Doubles Presence on List of Top 25 Resorts in the Caribbean, Bermuda and the Bahamas—Up From Five Properties in 2008 to Ten This Year
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica, for the fifth year in a row, is the Caribbean island with the most resorts on Travel + Leisure magazine’s 14th annual World’s Best Awards readers’ survey, with ten hotels, up from five in 2008, named to the list of Top 25 Resorts in the Caribbean, Bermuda and the Bahamas.
The top-ranked Jamaican resort is Couples Negril, listed as number two in the category. Hotels in Jamaica’s diverse resort areas of Negril, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and the South Coast are ranked on the World’s Best Awards list of Top 25 Resorts in the Caribbean, Bermuda, and the Bahamas.
The Jamaican properties on the list of Top 25 Resorts, Caribbean, Bermuda and Bahamas category include: Couples Negril (2); Couples Swept Away, Negril (3); Royal Plantation, Ocho Rios (6); Couple Sans Souci, Ocho Rios (7); Couples Tower Isle, St. Mary/Ocho Rios (8); Jamaica Inn, Ocho Rios (11); Rockhouse Hotel, Negril (20); Sandals Whitehouse European Village & Spa, South Coast (21); Round Hill Hotel & Villas, Montego Bay (24); and Half Moon, Montego Bay (25).

“Jamaica is delighted to have the most properties, twice that of last year, voted as favorites in the Caribbean by Travel + Leisure readers – some of the world’s most discerning travelers,” said Jamaica’s Director of Tourism John Lynch.
“Jamaica offers travelers a diverse travel experience with a variety of accommodations across the island,” continued Director Lynch. “With six resort areas, and two international airports, we are attaining our goal of making Jamaica the preferred destination for all travelers. Jamaica has had tremendous success at meeting the needs of the modern traveler while maintaining the allure of its timeless appeal. This is apparent through the listing of historic properties like Jamaica Inn and Round Hill, which have been luring travelers since the 1950s, alongside the newly reopened Couples Tower Isle.”
Jamaica has been the most recognized Caribbean island in the hotels category in Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards readers’ survey since 2005. In 2008, the island-nation held five spots in Top 25 Resorts in the Caribbean, Bermuda and the Bahamas region.
