Jamaica Independence Celebration in Miramar – Aug. 8th

MIRAMAR – Jamaica’s top show and dance band, the Fabulous 5, popularly known as FAB5 will headline JAMAICA INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION 2010 – JAM-48 – celebrating Jamaica’s 48th Independence anniversary on Sunday, August 8, 2010, at Miramar Regional Park. The event will also feature the Carimer Theatre Company, performing traditional dances, Tallawah Mento Band and a number of top entertainers and artistic groups engaging patrons in a variety of cultural presentations.

Presented by Digicel, the event is a joint venture between NRS, Inc. and Riddims Marketing in association with United Friends of Highgate (UFOH). JAMAICA INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION 2010 – JAM-48 will attract thousands of Jamaicans and supporters of the island’s traditions, who will gather at Miramar Regional Park, 16801 Miramar Parkway, just west of I-75, to enjoy delicious Jamaican food and dance to the sounds of reggae, mento and ska. As in past years, patrons are encouraged to “wear yuh colours” – the Jamaican national colors of Black, Gold and Green, to demonstrate their patriotic pride. It is expected that Fashionistas will inspire, impress and amaze with a variety of vibrant and creative outfits.

Digicel Head of Marketing for the Diaspora, Marlon Davis, said; “As a company that was founded in Jamaica over nine years ago, we are proud to sponsor the Jamaica Independence Celebrations in Miramar this year. We strongly believe in supporting community initiatives and we are delighted to be able to support the Jamaican Diaspora community in this important celebration.”

Adults and kids alike can participate in the day’s activities – Mento and Ska Dance contests and traditional games such as marbles, jacks, dandy shandy and hop-scotch. The more active can participate in the hoola-hoop contest and sack race and egg & spoon race, competing for prizes; making for an irresistible day of fun for the entire family.
