WASHINGTON, DC – Jamaica Women of Washington (JWOW) will stage its fourth annual golf tournament at the Hampshire Greens Golf Course, at Silver Springs, Maryland, USA, on Wednesday, September 24.
The event, which is being staged as part of the Health of It and Investment Seminar, will see some of Washington, D.C.’s top golfers participating and vying for various prizes. Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Jamaica Cancer Society. A business symposium entitled: “Serious about Wealth”, will be held, in addition to the golf tourney.
President of JWOW, Dr. Jacqueline Watson, said “the Jamaica Cancer Society was earmarked to benefit from this year’s golf tournament because of the outstanding work they have been doing, and the numerous programmes they have undertaken to highlight cancer prevention, and to assist persons who have been affected by cancer”.
Keynote speaker will be Christopher Williams, Managing Director of National Commercial Bank Capital Markets Limited. Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, Anthony Johnson, will also address the seminar.
In June of this year, JWOW donated US$15000 to two Jamaican organizations, the Combined Disabilities Association, which received US$10,000, and the University of the West Indies (UWI) Endowment Fund, which received US$5,000. Both donations were part proceeds from JWOW’s Annual Fundraising Tea Party.
JWOW has contributed US$175,000 to a number of charitable organizations in Jamaica over the past five years. These include: Jamaica AIDS Support, Mensana Community for the Upliftment of the Mentally Ill, Westmoreland Association of Street People, Children First, Women’s Legal Watch, the Family and Parenting Centre, and the Western Society for the Upliftment of Children.
