J Wray and Nephew Celebrates its 190th Anniversary

KINGSTON, Jamaica – J. Wray & Nephew Limited marked the start of its 190th anniversary on Sunday, July 12 at the St. Andrew Parish Church (Jamaica) with a spirit of thanksgiving.

Greta Bogues, Senior Director of Corporate Affairs and External Communications and Chair of the 190th Anniversary Committee, highlighted the symbolism of celebrating the occasion at St. Andrew Parish Church, noting that as the oldest registered company in Jamaica it was quite fitting to host the service at the St. Andrew Parish Church, one of the oldest churches in Jamaica, celebrating its  350th anniversary this year.

In his sermon, Assistant Curate Olando Gayle, encouraged the congregation to be mindful of God’s faithfulness despite the hard economic challenges that the country is currently facing. He applauded J. Wray & Nephew Limited for their own demonstration of faithfulness over the company’s history. “The core values of J. Wray & Nephew Limited- integrity and passion, pragmatism and performance orientation – have allowed them to reach this milestone and create nothing but the best,” Gayle said.

As part of the company’s 190th Anniversary year-long celebrations, Ms. Bogues handed over a cheque valued at J$190,000 to the St Andrew Parish Church to assist the St. Andrew Settlement outreach project. The project is an initiative which aims to provide developmental assistance to at-risk youth in the Majesty Gardens community through skills training, spiritual and social activities, education, health care and environment awareness.
