TAMARAC, Fla. — Island SPACE Caribbean Museum is bringing one of its signature community celebrations back to the spotlight. The museum will present the fourth annual HERS – Honoring Exceptionally Regal Sisters on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center. This event will honor Caribbean women whose leadership, creativity and service have helped shape South Florida. In addition, it will honor those who have shaped the wider diaspora.

Designed as an elegant afternoon of recognition, culture and connection, HERS is expected to draw hundreds of guests. The program will blend honoree tributes, live entertainment, Caribbean hospitality, and an artisan marketplace. Additionally, there will be a headline conversation centered on reinvention and purpose.

Presented with support from Tamarac Commissioner Morey Wright Jr., the City of Tamarac and the Broward County Cultural Division, HERS has grown into a marquee moment on the museum’s annual calendar, recognizing women of Caribbean heritage making an impact across business, public service, the arts and community leadership.

“HERS celebrates the extraordinary women whose leadership, talent and service strengthen Tamarac and communities throughout South Florida,” said Tamarac Commissioner Morey Wright Jr.

“It is an honor to support an event that brings Caribbean women together to be recognized, celebrated and connected.”

Honoring Caribbean Women at the Center of the Story

The afternoon’s centerpiece will be the HERS Honoree Recognition Ceremony, spotlighting accomplished Caribbean women and the stories behind their work, influence and service.

“HERS gives Caribbean women a celebration that matches the scale of their influence,” said Calibe Thompson, executive director of Island SPACE Caribbean Museum.

“It gives the community an opportunity to applaud their achievements, enjoy one another and support the museum that tells our shared story throughout the year.”

The program opens with steelpan and continues with live entertainment, networking, shopping and a cultural lineup built for both celebration and conversation. Among the featured moments is the fireside discussion “Same Author, New Chapter,”. This discussion explores the choices, boundaries and renewed purpose that can shape a woman’s next act.

This year’s event expands the guest experience with the Caribbean Culinary Café. It will offer affordable small plates inspired by multiple Caribbean islands. Moreover, each dish will be framed by the traditions and stories connected to it.

Also new for 2026 is the Queen’s Court, a $65 premium experience that includes general admission. It gives guests access to a private retreat with beauty, wellness and hospitality touches throughout the afternoon.

“We are designing every part of HERS to feel thoughtful, lively and generous,” said Dr. Camille Edwards, HERS project lead. “Guests can expect a polished experience that feels distinctly Caribbean.”
