Born in London, after his parents relocated to England from Jamaica, Priest began to sing in church and grew up listening to gospel, reggae and R&B. Searching for his identity and a sense of belonging led him to embrace his cultural heritage and roots, themes still expressed in his music.

He released his debut album “You’re Safe” in 1985. Shortly after in 1987, Priest left England for Jamaica and recorded his third album in Kingston. However, it was with the 1990 release of “Close to You” that Priest became the first reggae singer in years to have a number one single in the U.S. His most recent retrospective album, “Maximum Collection,” was released in June 2012 and has earned him a place among other reggae greats including Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff and Dennis Brown.

Individual tickets are $35, $40 and $45 with a two-show subscription package offering a savings of 10 percent. Other shows in the Signature Series include Howard Hewett and Michel’le (April 13) and Renee Olstead (May 18).

The Miramar Cultural Center | ArtsPark is located at 2400 Civic Center Place on Red Road, north of Miramar Parkway, in Miramar. Miramar Cultural Center | ArtsPark can be found on Facebook at facebook.com/MiramarCulturalCenter and on Twitter @MiramarCultural.
