Inductees To Jamaica Film Academy Announced

KINGSTON, Jamaica – On Friday, February 22 six stalwarts in the Jamaican Film making business were inducted in to the newly created Jamaican Film Academy.

Sanctioned by the Minister of Information , Culture, Youth and Sport Olivia Grange, the induction took placed during the proceedings at the final night of the Reggae Film Festival, which was held at the Courtleigh Auditorium in Kingston.

The inductees include:

The late PERRY HENZELL – Director of the popular film ” The Harder They Come” and commissioner of several other Jamaican films, videos and documentaries. The award was accepted on his behalf by his widow and daughter, Sally and Justine Henzell

FRANKLYN ” CHAPPY” St. JUSTE – cinematographer and current lecturer at the Caribbean Institure of Media & Communication (CARIMAC)

CYNTHIA WILMOT – Jamaican Documentarian

CHRIS BLACKWELL – Producer and Funder of many Jamaican Films including ” DanceHall Queen” and Third World Cop”, whose award was accepted by personal friend and business partner Dickie Jobson.

TREVOR RHONE – Screen Writer , who is also known for his work on popular Jamaican film, novel and play “Smile Orange”

CARL BRADSHAW – Actor, who has appeared in a number of Jamaican film productions, including five of the films shown during the Reggae Film Festival.

In the induction ceremony held on Friday night, the Minister stated that she was extremely pleased with the progress made by the island in the area of film production and that she will put the full support of her Ministry and the Government at large behind the efforts to further foster the development of the area.
