Hispanic and Caribbean Artists Are Showcased at Miramar Cultural Center’s Ansin Family Art Gallery

MIRAMAR – In celebration of the major contributions that Caribbean and Latin American artists have made to contemporary American culture, the Ansin Family Art Gallery at the Miramar Cultural Center | ArtsPark presents Americana, now through November 15.

The exhibition features works by artists including Yovani Bauta, Pastor Castillo, Alejandro Mendoza, Sergio Payares, Antuan Rodriguez and Carlos Suarez de Jesus from Cuba; Rudolf Kohn and Dario Posada from Colombia; Maximo Caminero from the Dominican Republic; Emilio Martinez from Honduras; and Carola Bravo and Andres Michelena from Venezuela.

The combined works of these artists reflect Caribbean and Latin American heritage as well as the issue of immigration, not as a nostalgic vision of the past but as the awakening for a future transformed.

Americana challenges visitors to reconsider basic presumptions about contemporary non-Western art and, instead, recognize Caribbean identity, cultural values and art expressions through this historical art narrative.

The exhibition also creates a contemporary visual feast for the eyes where the pieces can be experienced for their historical as well as artistic perspective.

This exhibition is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.MiramarCulturalCenter.org or call (954) 602-4500.

The gallery is open Monday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Miramar Cultural Center | ArtsPark is located at 2400 Civic Center Place on Red Road, north of Miramar Parkway, in Miramar. Miramar Cultural Center | ArtsPark can be found on Facebook at facebook.com/MiramarCulturalCenter and on Twitter @MiramarCultural.
