Hartford Police Sergeant Lauded Jamaica’s PM

HARTFORD – Prime Minister, the Most Honorable Portia Simpson Miller has lauded Jamaican born police sergeant in the Hartford Police department, Andrew Lawrence, for his 20 years of sterling service and his distinguished contribution to the Hartford police department.

In her message, delivered by Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Ralph Thomas, at a celebration banquet at the West Indies Social Club on Saturday, November 28, to honor Sergeant Lawrence, Prime Minister Simpson Miller said, “It is a distinct pleasure to join the Hartford Police Department, members of the Greater Hartford community and the Jamaican Diaspora in celebrating Sergeant Andrew Lawrence’s 20 years of service as a law enforcement officer.”

“I take great pride in extending my deepest congratulations to this treasured son of Jamaica.  The recognition being paid to you is a tribute to your meritorious service and is a much deserved honor”, the Prime Minister.

She pointed out that Sergeant Lawrence’s meteoric rise in the Hartford Police Department is a reflection of his hard work and dedication as he worked diligently in so many areas of his professional pursuit. In recognition of his tireless efforts to community service, he was deservedly promoted to Detective and later, Sergeant, while receiving numerous other accolades as well as awards. The Prime Ministers said she was particularly pleased that his diligence, loyalty and commitment have not gone unnoticed.

Prime Minister Simpson Miller added that she was pleased and very happy to note that Sergeant Andrew Miller’s involvement in community development extended outside of the Hartford area to his beloved country of birth as well as the Caribbean region.

She added that his work as founder of the Caribbean Trade Council and also as Director of Public Safety for the Northeast Region of the Jamaican Diaspora Advisory Council was instrumental.  The hosting of several trade conferences and meetings with trade officials and diplomats which were organized by the Caribbean Trade Council has no doubt generated investments and interests in driving the growth and development of the Region.   The Prime Minister commended him for his contribution to national and regional development.  She highlighted Sergeant Lawrence’s deep and abiding love for Jamaica and the Caribbean.

Just over 300 hundred persons headed by Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, Ralph Thomas, Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United Nations Courtney Rattery, Jamaica’s Counsel General to New York Hermon Lamont, former north-east Diaspora Board Advisory member Erwin Claire, representatives of the Hartford Police department and members of Hartford’s City Council attended the celebration and paid tribute to Sergeant Lawrence.

After twenty years of service, Sergeant Lawrence will retire from the Hartford Police department at the end of this week.
