Haitian-American Lawmakers To Convene For Annual Leadership Conference

NEW YORK – The National Haitian-American Elected Officials Network (NHAEON) announced today that it would host its 14th Annual Leadership Retreat this week in the New York Metro Area. With an anticipated 300 attendees, the theme of this year’s NHAEON Retreat is Standing Together.

Members and other stakeholders will participate in forums and panel discussions by a well-established braintrust of leaders and legislators. Mary Estimé-Irvin, Vice-Mayor of North Miami, Florida will serve as honorary chairperson of the event.

Current and future elected officials will share perspectives on issues that impact Haitians and Haitian-Americans, including economic development, humanitarian efforts, immigration rights, voting rights, social justice and environmental issues. There will be a special track for emerging leaders.

In addition to the robust program, members will enjoy cultural exhibits and the Leadership Gala & Awards Dinner, featuring keynote speaker, New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez and other special guests.

Honorees

Honorees include Congressman Gregory Meeks, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, and Lieutenant Colonel Fritz Fragé. Entertainment will be provided by Haitian band Klass, popular comedian Vlad “Haitian V” Calixte and the talented DJ Stakz of Hi-Profyle Music Group.

“It is imperative for Haitian-American public servants to unite and steer the conversation towards policy that will ameliorate the lives of so many,” said NHAEON Chairperson Charnette Frederic. “We invite the civically engaged to collaborate with us as we continue to advocate for the Haitian community.”

Anyone who would like to attend the Leadership Retreat may visit the NHAEON website to register. Credentials will be available for members of the press interested in meeting with lawmakers and presenters prior to the conference or on-site. The NHAEON Retreat will be held at Envue, Autograph Collection Hotel in Weehawken, NJ.
