Honorees include the first Haitian American elected official in Broward County, Commissioner Darline B. Riggs of Miramar, State Rep. Daphne Campbell, Commissioner Howard Berger of Lauderhill and the Employee Union, SEIU.

Congresswoman and DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schutz will be the Keynote Speaker.

“This is a year of engagement and we believe the luncheon will be an opportune time to get people energized for the August primaries as well as the general elections. We will guide the community to volunteer opportunities, phone banks, voter registration and neighborhood canvassing,” said HADC President Guithele Ruiz-Nicolas. Of the 31 municipalities, 13 cities in Broward County are among the top 100 cities throughout the nation with the most citizens of Haitian descent.

The HADC plays a key role in bridging the gap for the inclusion of Haitian Americans in the political arena, specifically: educating and registering new voters, hosting citizenship drives, organizing forums on issues of great importance to the community as well as advocating for legislative issues supporting the democratic agenda.

Luncheon Chair, Linda Mathieu-Flavien, stated that the goal is to top last year’s attendance, which approximately 145 guests participated. A number of local candidates, elected officials and members of the community have already made arrangements to attend. The Tim Cannova Campaign is the top sponsor of the event and will participate at the Diamond Sponsorship Level.
