Grenada welcomes new tourist shopping facilities

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada – The Grenada Board of Tourism is pleased to report the grand opening of two new shopping facilities that will help improve Grenada’s tourism offerings to visitors.

The $11 million Esplanade Mall, located at the Melville Street cruise ship terminal in St. George’s, offers a wide range of items at duty free prices. These include electronics, jewelry, gift items, local craft, liquor, and fragrances.

“The luxurious Esplanade Mall is part of our vision to deliver unique and diverse experiences that exceed the expectations of visitors,” said Minster of Tourism, the Honorable Brenda Hood. “It is our hope that this new shopping outlet will enable cruise ship passengers and other customers more variety and choices as well as serve as a catalyst to encourage more guests to disembark from their ships.”

In addition, the brand new South City Duty Free Plaza, situated on the Grand Anse main road, adjacent to the Vendors’ Market on Grand Anse Beach, recently opened. The Plaza boasts some 35 shops, with banking and hotel facilities to be opened in later 2006.

“The plaza’s proximity to Grand Anse Beach and the main tourism belt makes it an ideal shopping destination for visitors in the area,” said Minister Hood.

Known as the “Spice Island of the Caribbean,” Grenada boasts some of the Caribbean’s most beautiful beaches, delectable cuisine and spices, a tropical rainforest, and a wide range of fun-filled activities such as world-class diving, snorkeling, hiking, fishing and sailing.

Grenada can be reached from the U.S. with Air Jamaica’s service from several major cities including New York and Miami. Grenada can also be reached by BWIA daily from New York and Miami and three times a week from Washington, DC via Barbados or Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, and American Eagle, via San Juan.
