German government imposes new levy on airline tickets to the Caribbean

LONDON – As Caribbean Tourism Ministers and other stakeholders lobby the British Coalition Government to change the Air Passenger Duty (APD), the German government imposes a new levy on airline tickets.

The new charge adds an additional US$57 on tickets to Caribbean destinations.

Chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) John Maginley says the body is aware of the new levy and a similar tax soon to be introduced by the European Union (EU).

Minister Maginley, who is also Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, and Culture, adds that the CTO will study the likely impact on the region’s tourism sector to initiate a strong response.
