Free Musical Concert in South Florida, “HELP FOR HAITI” to provide hurricane relief

MIAMI – Miami Dade Commissioner Dorrin D. Rolle invites District 2 families to join him for “HELP FOR HAITI” on Saturday, September 27 at Oak Grove Park, 690 NE 159 Street, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

This free community gathering, sponsored by Nopin Long Distance and Bakery Café, and the Jackson Health Trust, will encourage Miami-Dade residents to donate food and other goods to be shipped to the island, which has been battered by several devastating storms. In addition, the commissioner’s goal is to raise $100,000 for aid, and to continue to raise funds for humanitarian support on a continual basis.

“Hurricane Ike was the fourth storm to hit Haiti this hurricane season, leaving hundreds dead, and thousands more in need of food and water,” said Commissioner Rolle. “If there was ever a time for us to show our compassion and help a neighbor in need, this is it. I’m proud of the local organizations that have already stepped up to the plate and opened their hearts to the cause, and I know we can reach our goal with the help of Miami-Dade County. ”

Attendees are urged to donate non-perishable goods – like canned food, rice, powdered milk, water, and medical supplies – as admission to the event; the donations will later be personally delivered to Haiti by Commissioner Rolle. Nopin Long Distance will donate 10 percent of their recharged minutes from September 8 to September 27 to the relief effort, and Bakery Café will contribute 10 percent of their food sales.

Residents are also encouraged to donate money by calling 1-800-503-8622, and will receive free Nopin minutes to add to their phone.

Popular local and Haitian recording artists will perform live at the event, including Sweet Micky, Brisco, Jowee Omicil, Zin (invited), Hangout, Bel Jazz, Gabel, Nickenson Prudhomme, Mac D and Sanders of Harmonik, Robert Martino, Ball Greezy, Bizzle, Cuttaman, Erol Josué, Suave Red Eyes, and more. DJ Griot, Franky Mixalot, DJ K-9, and DJ Cool G will also keep the crowd hyped with great music.

Joining Commissioner Rolle will be actor Aubry Blague, comedian Larry Dogg, and radio personalities Hernzt Phanord, Ed Lozama, and Piment Bouc to speak with guests and motivate them to contribute to Haiti.

Parents can take their children to the Kids Corner, with lots of activities for little ones to enjoy and a clinic from the Haitian National Soccer Team.

HELP FOR HAITI’s media partners include 1020 Radio Mega and WMIB 103.5 The Beat. Parking for the event will be available at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 14500 NE 11 Avenue.
