Free Jazz Concert to Celebrate Jamaica In New York

NEW YORK – Medgar Evers College in conjunction with Laparkan Shipping is hosting a free reggae jazz concert on Friday, August 12, 2011 to celebrate Jamaica’s 49th anniversary of Independence. The concert will be held from 6-9 pm at the Medgar Evers College Amphitheater, 1650 Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, New York.

The free concert will feature a number of Caribbean, African and African American jazz musicians whose work include jazz renditions of popular reggae hits. Among the performers will be Douglas Gurthrie founding member of the Inner Circle Band, Jamaican singer and songwriter Keeling Bedford, acclaimed Haitian organist Eric Toussaint and Nigerian reggae star Majek Fashek who is the featured artiste at the event.

This concert is a tribute to Jamaica and to reggae music and is being staged as Jamaica observes yet another anniversary of this historic milestone.

Admission to the concert is free. Entry to the amphitheater is on Montgomery Avenue, between Franklin and Bedford Avenues.
