Fox Soccer Channel to carry 2008 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualification

LOS ANGELES – Two coveted spots in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing will be on the line as Fox Soccer Channel airs live and exclusive English-language coverage of the 2008 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualification tournament in March.

Held in three U.S. cities, this tournament features the top Under-23 national teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

Fox Soccer Channel’s seven-match telecast schedule begins with all three of the United States’ round-robin contests in Group A play, taking place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. The Americans open Olympic qualification against Cuba on Tuesday, March 11 at 8:00 p.m. ET, followed by matches against Panama on Thursday, March 13 at 8:00 p.m. and Honduras on Saturday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m.

The top two finishers in each of the two groups will advance to semifinal play on Thursday, March 20 at LP Field in Nashville, Tenn. Fox Soccer Channel will air both of these matches live, at 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. ET.

The winners of each contest earn a berth into the Beijing Olympics, and will meet in finals of the CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualification on Sunday, March 23 at 5:00 p.m. ET. Live coverage of that contest will be preceded by the third-place match at 2:00 p.m.

The United States will look to qualify for the Olympics for the first time since 2000, when it reached the medal round in Sydney. The Americans are led by many of the up-and-coming stars of Major League Soccer (MLS) – including team captain Sasha Kljestan, a midfielder with Chivas USA, and New York Red Bulls forward Jozy Altidore – who are gearing up for the start of their season in late March.

“Our coverage of the 2008 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualification further positions Fox Soccer Channel as the premier destination for fans of both American soccer and top-flight international competitions,” said David Sternberg, Fox Soccer Channel’s Executive Vice President and General Manager. “We look forward to bringing our viewers all of the exciting action from Tampa and Nashville.”
