Four charities in Jamaica to benefit from $20 million project

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Four nationally-run charities in Jamaica are likely to benefit from $20 million over a four year period, according to the Chief Executive Officer of PCF Company, Mr. Patrick Cawley. This is in addition to an effort to donate $250,000 to help in the recovery effort in Haiti which has been devastated by a major earthquake.

The four charities are Bread Basket Ministries, JamCan Relief, Guiding Light and Gregory Park Baptist Learning Centre. Mr. Cawley announced that PCF will be embarking on a new project to produce the Haiti’s Reconstruction Plaques to assist the task to rebuild Haiti.

Making the announcement at a courtesy call on Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen at King’s House Thursday, January 21st, Mr. Kevin Frith said the effort was seeking to improve Jamaica’s humanitarian image abroad within the context of Brand Jamaica. He said very often it is felt by the outside world that “we are only capable of exhibiting negative outlook” despite the world class performance of our athletes and others of notoriety.

Mr. Kevin Frith (L) Managing Director of PCF Company Ltd presenting a plaque inscribed with the words of the National Anthem to His Excellency Sir Patrick Allen (R) at a special ceremony at kings House during a courtesy call he made on the Governor General recently. PCF recently launched an international campaign to raise 20 million dollars over a four year period from the sales of these plaques.

Mr. Frith later explained that the plaques were done in pleasant artistry to be able to tell the story for all to learn and be aware of that Jamaica’s accomplishments are not only skilful but equally humanitarian as “we strive to be on top”.

In his comments, Mr. Cawley said the sale of the National Pledge and the National Anthem across the length and breadth of Jamaica will allow the proceeds to be accrued to help our needy children. The Haiti renewal project will be put on track immediately for completion in the first half of this year.

Mr. Cawley told the Governor General that PCF joined with all Jamaica in sharing in the grief and destruction which had hit Haiti, claiming countless lives and loss of properties and livestock.

In speaking of the charities, Mr. Cawley said, “we yearn for that Jamaica when our citizens from humble beginnings can become greater scientists, lawyers, engineers, craftsmen and women as well as Governors General and politicians.”

Mr. Cawley added that with the careful reading of the National Anthem and the National Pledge, “we will have our children at schools beginning to believe in themselves, the existence of God and the beautiful land bequeathed to us for our existence.”

He said that he used the opportunity to gain the endorsement from the Governor General so as to demonstrate to the world that the efforts to bring back the island on the road to a new Jamaica could fit in his tag line, “I believe”.

Mr. Cawley noted that with a chief statesman like the Governor General with his spiritual underpinning, a country with God at the centre with its natural beauty covering saints of all background, he was confident that Jamaicans will survive present difficulties.
